Agricultural success depends on the health of the soil. Traditional agricultural fertilizers are dominantly chemical, consisting of various ratios of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium (NPK fertilizer). However, repeated NPK use has been proven to eventually lead to soil degradation, diminished returns and toxicity run off. Healthy soil contains nutrients, microbes, fungi and trace elements; all of which are essential to the provision of crucial nutrition to the growing plant and can be destroyed by application of traditional fertilizers and pesticides.
